X'Mas 1 : Paris

So I don't know if you've noticed, but there's been a starting trend of proper posts. Consider this my Xmas spirit or sumthin'.

Opening the ball of Seasons posts officially : this one is dedicated to nemesis2207 (mostly the last pics), for her unique and inspiring pictures of places and strange stuff.

"Ca c'est Paris"... for better or for worse.

The Hotel Westminster's Seasons ornament, it seems... Looks like a curtain of red roses? o_O Pretty...

This was taken just beside, but a few weeks ago. Cartier's shop (Place Vendôme is where all the most expensive jewelries are) was undergoing major renovation, and they had this... thing... to cover the scaffolding.

Jardin des Tuileries, sunset on an winter afternoon, with rust-colored trees. Squee. I &heart; Paris.

On the other hand, I saw this in a shop window and was wondering how insanely rich I'd have to get before I would consider buying something as ugly and useless as this :

Close-ups of the silver lobsters :

and the octopus :

It's sold with silverware, but I have no idea if it's supposed to have any purpose.

And of course, as in any luxury shop, no price in the window.

(basically, if you need to ask how much it costs, you can't buy it :P )

Yes. And because they remind me of growing up (they're from my parents' house)

People who have so much money that they have a dozen of huge dining rooms and need to decorate them with different and useless stuff to show off how wealthy they are, I reckon...

I WANT THE OCTOPUS!!! :p

Thank you for that, I really have to visit Paris soon and stop ranting about subtitles; I've got another rant coming because we got a DVD at the video store and we had the choice between the French dubbed version or the one with subtitles... WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE ORIGINALS??? ;) It is depressing... guess who's gonna download a lot of movies from now on! :/

This is even more weird to me than silver lobsters! ;)

> I WANT THE OCTOPUS!!! :p

I'm afraid it's a bit too expensive for me to offer you ;)

That's strange. Most Zone 2 DVDs I've seen have a choice of dub language independent from the subtitles. So if there are different languages available, you can choose to put original version without subtitles, or with English subtitles, or French subtitles, whatever suits you.

And that'll spare you rants ;)

Eee, that picture of the Jardin des Tuileries makes me want to come over to Paris RIGHT. NOW. [wriggles] I am really looking forward to moving to Sheffield, if only because that way I can get to Europe without an expenditure of roughly three thousand dollars each time. ^^;;

When you're in Sheffield, if you come to Paris and want a guide, just tell me :)
I like to show Paris around to people.

Ooh, I'd love that. Wandering around strange cities is all well and good, but it's always so much better when you're with someone who loves the place and knows how to show it. :D

Cool :)
And it saves time, too, I think.
