Terri Schiavo

You call that "life"?

You know, I am pro-choice for both birth and death, but right now I wish there was a death penalty for being as incredibly stubborn and stupid as her parents. There won't by any improvement. She's been in vegetative state for 15 years, all the doctors apparently agree that there is no way it will improve. You're waiting for a friggin' miracle.

You're not fighting for her well being. You're fighting because it makes you feel good about yourself and useful. Well let it go and grow up, for fuck's sake.

I agree with you. How her parents can think that she is still alive is unbelievable. She has no chance of recovery. There is no way to replace the dead brain tissue in her cerebral cortex, and most of what is sloshing around inside her skull is just cerebrospinal fluid. Without it, she is unable to feel pain, pleasure, emotions, consciousness, etcetera. What kind of "life" is left without any higher brain functions?

It looks like her parents only believe what they want to believe. I wonder how educated they are. Or if they've been properly explained what is going on.

Though of course, a lot of people can blissfully ignore the facts to hang on o their beliefs...

I find it sooo egoistic of the partents to keep her alive with machines. I think they just can't let go of her.

Sure that kind of coma she is in was overcome by a few patients. but only if the braindamage isn't very extensive.

Apparently she already had a stroke before, so there were already brain damages. And after 15 years? I doubt that even with our current medical knowledge, we can keep someone healthy for that long...

THis story is CONSTANTLY on the news so of course I'm very upset by the whole thing. Her parents are insane--I feel sorry for her husband. Of course, Bush backs the parents--because he's that dumb.

This is why I believe in Euthanasia--if I ever get like Terri, I would HOPE my loved ones would put me to sleep.

I can't help thinking that it's a consequence of too much faith and not enough thinking... Certainly not enough thinking.
And assuming you can change the course of things by being stubborn?
